Foyer
There is a mix of French antiques (we lived in Paris for two years when our kids were little) and new things.
For new looks, I like to mix up the accessories in here every few months by using things I already own.
Living Room

Dining Room
We purchased new dining room chairs and a table since my last home tour. And I recovered the dining bench in performance fabrics.
The Circa Lighting chandelier is newer here. And I’m always changing the table runners and centerpiece. Not to mention the gallery wall…
Reading spot in the Bay Window…
My Compact Office
Master Bedroom
The bed linens are by Serena and Lily and linen sheets by Coyuchi. I wish this desk was really this clean right now.
Pine dressers with great storage.

Kitchen
It’s your basic galley rental kitchen that I’ve tried to fix up with accessories like the Roman shade and washable runner. We also got approval to paint our kitchen cabinets Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter.
Our dated rental kitchen and bathrooms are a downer, so I focus on the positives like our view.
The pantry was reorganized and freshen in this post.
The Guest Room
It’s compact but functional!
Back to San Francisco…
Can you see the Golden Gate Bridge and the fog?

What a lovely home! The view from your kitchen is just lovely, what a beautiful sight to see every morning! Do you happen to know what color of white was used for your fireplace/mantel? I am getting my mantel upgraded by a mantel refinisher and want a classic, white traditional one that looks just like yours!
Reaching back and enjoying your post. Can you source those beautiful throw pillows on your master bed? Asking for a friend 😉
Serena and Lily…hope they still have them.
Mary Ann! I adore this updated tour. Everything looks so beautiful! Your apartment is so welcoming and lovely and your views are drop dead gorgeous. I think I saw those basketball courts in a recent commercial…now I can’t remember what it was advertising…but I loved seeing it!
xo
Hi Mary Ann,
I love the update and your style is always spot on. It has to be an added advantage having that spectacular view. I see that your post is dated today, but the comments all range from 2018 – 2019, including a comment I wrote. Is something haywire? It was a great time to sell for sure. I’m relieved you are sad about it. Your Lido house was such a wonderfully charming home.
xo,
Karen
Thanks for the tour, I like your style. That view does make up for any little deficiencies in a rental.
Great-looking dining chairs. I assume they are comfortable or you wouldn’t have purchased.
Your home does look like an inviting place in which to actually live, not just a show place.
They are comfortable, Wren, but I also added a small lumbar pillow to the back.
Your dad’s letter is something to treasure forever!
Your home is beautiful and feels very welcoming. The view from your windows is stunning!
Yes, I love the letter from my dad, Mary!
Just curious…do you have a TV?
Yes, Tricia, four of them. One to the left of the mantel in the living room (I don’t love the look of it but you’ve inspired me to show it on Instagram), one in our bedroom and little ones in the kitchen and guestroom.
If you’re ever in the Grand Haven area of Michigan, please let me know. I need your help and I love your style.
Well, there is always e-design, Tammy!
I can’t get enough of your classic casual home, Mary Ann!
I’m shopping for a new coffee table and love yours!
Where is it from?
Many thanks::stay safe
Beth
Thanks Beth. My coffee table is old but there is a similar one on the blog under “Shop Our Home.”
I truly love your style and I did leave my heart in San Francisco. Such an amazing city. You are a fortunate person to have such a wonderful home with magnificent views.
Thanks, Mary Ann!!
Mary Ann, I just LOVE your home. I still am stunned by those views! I’s be looking out everyday.. Your office and kitchen are my favorites. You say the kitchen isn’t great, but I have to protest- it’s light , bright and cozy!! Plus you made it really stylish. Love the two bedrooms and the main rooms too. Your house is really very European with your collection of cool travel things. I The way you live is so inspiring! I hope you had or are still having a great trip. Can’t wait to see you and catch up. xo Kim
I don’t think there is a prettier apartment in San Francisco. Feel very fortunate to have visited! Can’t wait to hear about your trip!!
You are so sweet, Cindy!!
Wow. The house is so beautiful. Thanks for giving the home tour.
Mary Ann,
I’ve been inspired by both your Newport Beach home and your bay area apartment. I’m not sure I’d get anything done with that view! It’s so beautiful.
xo,
Karen
Thanks for all your support, Karen!
Love your home! The views just add to the beauty. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks, Connie. The views do make it hard to leave.
Dear Mary Ann
It is all lovely. It must be wonderful to come home to a place with such warmth. And your views! How magnificent are they? I think SFO rivals Sydney for the views to be had!
It would be tough to beat Sydney’s views!
I KNOW WHERE YOU ARE NOW!!!!
ENJOY IT ALL!!!
Everything always looks so FRESH and NEW with YOU!YOUR VIEWS are STUNNING!How you get anything done I don’t know!YES< SHOW the "UGLIER" side from time to time to MAKE ME FEEL GOOD!
I bet CHIEF is waiting for your return!!!!!
WHAT A CHARACTER he is!
XX
Thanks, Contessa. We are loving Lisbon…and Chief is having a good time in L.A.!
Hi Mary Ann, I am repainting my home Dove white ( having seen it on your blog). What colour would the trim be and then is it a semi gloss?
Thank you so much and for sharing your beautiful inspirations to those of us who do not have your gift and skill.
Happy Mother’s Day
Keep well,
Vv
I think you will like the White Dove…just be prepared that it will look really white until you get used to it and then you will love it. 🙂 Yes, Super White or White in satin or semi-gloss.
What a great little tour, I love the classic look of your home Mary Ann, both in Newport Beach and now SF. You’ve managed to tweak your décor so it reflects your new Bay surroundings perfectly. 🙂
Mary Ann I love both of your homes…….you bring such a beautiful, sophisticated yet livable to touch them with your gorgeous style!
Everything looks so inviting and lovely!
Loved seeing this tour of your beautiful style, Mary Ann! I could move right in and feel so happy with the classic lovely and colors I love. I didn’t realize your cabinets were Revere Pewter–the color I painted furniture in our bedroom a while back! Happy New Year, friend. xox
Your home is magnificent! It would be difficult to pick which room I like the best because they are all so pretty and unique in their own way. Your daughter’s bathroom really caught my eye – love the cabinet you have in there and the color is so rich! Can’t wait to see what is in store for the new year.
Happy New Year ! Your home is so lovely – I really adore everything about it. And I have been reading your blog for a while and remember your home before this apartment. Both so beautiful ! Thanks so much for a great blog that I always get excited about when I see a new post from you in my email…..
Thanks, Patricia, for being a loyal reader …THAT makes me happy!!! Hope you have great Sunday!
Loved the tour! I can’t wait to see your living room all refreshed…one day!!
Thanks for sharing your “collect” home. Feels fresh but not trendy.
Your home is stunning! Love your style, and your blog. Thank you so much for the updated Home Tour! Happy New Year to you!
Thanks so much, Lori. Happy New Year to YOU!
Love your lovely home. Thanks for sharing. Happy New Year. SF is a great place to live.
Thanks so much!! Cold and rainy today…but you are right…a great place to live!
Both of your homes are so full of charm! Thank you for sharing these lovely photos. Could I ask where your your sofas came from…in both homes. I have been looking for a new sofa for quite awhile and love both styles. Thank you!
Judy, they are the same sofas but I recently had new seat cushions and slipcovers made after several years. The sofas were custom made about 12 years ago by an upholsterer in Costa Mesa, CA. They are 6′ sofas with English roll arms if you are looking online. Good luck!
Happy New Year, Mary Ann! I love how you’re always changing things up with things you already own. You’re SF apartment is so charming and it must be such fun to live in the City. Also love your SoCa home and remember the first time I saw it in BHG magazine . . . timeless style!
Happy New Year Juliet!!! You have wonderful taste…loved the photos you sent. It would be fun to put them on CCH!
You have the most exceptional gift Mary Ann! Your homes are absolutely beautiful. They are unique, stylish, elegant and timeless which is something I strive toachieve in our own home. Thank you for all of your lovely inspiration. Gabrielle xx (thehappykookaburra)
You are sooo awesome and kind, Gabrielle.
Absolutely stunning! Thank you for sharing.
Thank YOU!
How do you manage high fiber without carbs? That’s my downfall with the low carb diets. I admire your ability to skip wine. Your home is lovely and serene. Love the fireplace screen. Wish my gas fireplace had one with character!
We are still eating good carbs like beans, carrots, apples, etc. Sort of boring but I’m trying to get into it. Making chicken/vegetable soup tonight.
Thanks so much, Susie.
It looks wonderful – so warm and inviting.
I have followed your blog for years! You have the best taste and style in your homes.
BTW – what is the color of your walls in your SF apartment? Really looks like a perfect neutral.
Benjamin Moore White Dove, Debra. I really like it.
Ok, I’m happy to move in. Love everything about your home including that drop-dead view of the Bay!!! You have a beautiful, refreshing, youthful and great style vision. Love it. So what is the date for me to move in?
I would LOVE for you to come for lunch next time you are here…we need to plan something.
Happy New Year ! Beautiful apartment. Could you tell me what colour paint is on the walls ? Thank you
It’s Benjamin Moore White Dove. Thank you. Happy New Year to you!
Perfect decor in your homes! Bay view is awesome!
I appreciate seeing personal family photos displayed in
some of the rooms. As a new grandma, I keep acquiring gifts of framed photos
of baby…I love them, but where can I place so many tabletop & wall photo frames?!
Chief is adorable!
Thank you!! I think the key to not looking cluttered is to use larger frames and rotate the photos. And keep photos gathered rather than scattered everywhere. I love that you are called G’Ma 🙂
Love the house tour. There are many lessons to be gleaned about space and light. Each of your homes looks perfect in its space. Love to see how you have incorporated pieces from there to here. Still think your best black and white accessory is Chief!
Gorgeous home – loved every detail – especially your Boston! We have one as well – Milo. He brings so much joy to our lives. Best wishes for a wonderful and healthy 2018. Our 20 year old twin daughters are vegans and we are embracing their lifestyle and becoming more plant-based ourselves!
I am eating s ton of fresh vegetables…but vegan is tough…have to admire their fortitude. Happy new year to you, Heidi!!!
Everything looks so polished, but yet so inviting. And I love all the black|white contrast. Beautiful!
Well, you should see it with the pillows all scattered and dog toys everywhere 🙂 Thank you so much.
Your home is absolutely stunning! Magazine ready! Perfect!
Thanks for sharing and Happy New Year!
xo
Thanks, Ron! I love your home!
Mary Ann,
Both your Newport home and your SF home are lovely. Do you rent in SF? Curious, as we recently moved from our home of 35 years to rent a charming home, does your landlord allow painting and such? We haven’t rented for so long, not sure what we can do. Fortunately, the home doesn’t need much.
Happy New Year!
Karen
Yes, we are renting here and they let us paint but we had to pay for it ourselves. Happy new year, Karen!
I always love your updates! So beautiful!
Did you feel the earthquake this morning?
My s-i-l in Sausalito sure did. Happy to hear there were no injuries.
Wishing you a very Happy New Year!
Mary Ann,
I love seeing before and after and how you used furniture from your Newport Beach house in your SF apartment. The one thing I spotted immediately was that beautiful painting of your Paris apartment. I couldn’t tell for a second if it was a book or what….how beautiful to have such a wonderful piece from that time in your life. It looks perfect in that spot! And your cousin painted it…even more special!
Annie
Annie, that little oil painting looks good where ever I put it, I think. Happy New Year!
I’ve loved your style in Newport Beach and San Fran and always enjoy your posts. We are currently trying to select some warm whites for our library. Could you share what color you’ve used in your apartment?
Thanks!
Thanks, Jen. I always like Benjamin Moore White Dove…used it in both homes.
Thanks!
Every time you share photos from your present and past homes, I swoon! I love how you constantly rearrange and change up accessories and it always looks amazing. Of all the blogs I follow and homes I’ve seen, yours is one I could move right into and not change a thing! Thank you for sharing your wonderful talent, Mary Ann!
Happy New Year!
xoxo
Gail, you are the kindest person! Thanks for not thinking I am crazy for playing with my accessories…I will just be watching television or playing with Chief and look at say, the bookcases for a few seconds, then start moving things 🙂 Happy new year!
I love the collected, casual elegance of your home(s)!!
Happy New Year!!!
Thank so much!! Happy new your to YOU!
I love your style. It’s elegant yet comfortable, cozy yet not precious. Your place also has amazing light, which you use to great advantage in your color selection. Also, kudos for keeping perfectly decent kitchen cupboards and just changing them to a better color.
Questions:
1. Is the fireplace for wood or gas? If wood, where do you keep it? I found that to be one of the less-glamorous aspects of fireplaces (more precisely, the dirt/dust from the stocked logs and the spiders that like to live in them).
2. How do you get anything done with that view? I would be glued to the window 24/7, no matter how many years.
I try to stop once a day and appreciate the view…the best spot is standing in the foyer leading into the dining room…but there is so much light, I can’t get a good shot. It’s wood burning…but we have air quality issues here is SF, so I use Duraflame logs…they give off a little heat (Chief likes to sit by the fire when we have one lit). Do you have those type of logs…manufactured? Supposed to be cleaner. Happy New Year.
We aren’t allowed to burn fires in our fireplaces in town. Pollution! So I haven’t looked for Duraflame. Our previous house had a fireplace (and was in the countryside, so the pollution, while still there, was spread out and not regulated), and that’s where I got my fill of the dirt and spiders.
Also: I love your office. Mine is about the same size but not as chic. I am taking pointers from you.
It is all so beautiful and such a wonderful transformation! Every room is livable and sophisticated. Happy New Year!
Thanks so much! We like it…always nice to come “home.”
SO CRISP AND CLEAN!
I can remember that house below your first photo with the windows! The black and brown.
It always stood out for me!
Beautiful Post and now off to read about the 32 things……….!!
XX
We still want to have you guys over!! After this no wine thing!!! 🙂
I adore your style and really enjoyed the updated home tour! Good luck on the cleanse. I have been eating well this past week – mainly because I had the flu and didn’t eat much! But being sick reminded me how important it is to eat right. That is definitely a goal for this year…but I took a little break from it this morning when my son made chocolate chip pancakes! Ooops…well, we are in the middle of a snowstorm on the east coast so I’ll give myself a little slack! Happy New Year to you!
Shelley
Thanks, Shelley. Chocolate pancakes and snow outside sounds nice and cozy with your boy! Hope you feel better. A lot of people are sick right now.
Your home is beautiful Mary Ann. Happy New Year to you!
Thanks, Rene…I love YOUR home.
Where do you store your seasonal items ? I always have a problem with that so end up not changing seasonal decor even though I would love to !
It’s hard for me, too!!! You should see how packed the hall closet and garage are.
