Recently, I visited my old buddy, Carol in
La Jolla (near San Diego), California.
La Jolla (near San Diego), California.
This is the ocean view from her front deck.
After a long walk on the beach, we had an
inexpensive lunch at Caroline’s Seaside Café.
It’s located on the University of California’s Oceanography campus but open to everyone, not just students. What beautiful architecture and view!
Then, we headed back to Carol and Mark’s house.
This is Mark’s writer’s studio in the back garden.
It is a one room cottage built in Canada by Summerwood Products.
Their style unit is the Sonoma (10′ x 12′) and costs $10k, plus approximately $18k to build & outfit.
It is a peaceful, zen-like room and is where Mark wrote his book “Lead From the Heart” regarding advice for successful business management.
This is Carol’s atelier in the garage. She has been busy!
Even though her studio is in the garage, it comes with fresh ocean breezes and this view just outside!
You know it’s a good sign when someone asks you for the recipe…like after I made this easy Herb and Feta Salad for my sister. It’s a refreshing addition to your menu.

that's my idea of a studio!!
😉
I know exactly where that is! My parents have a condo at La Costa and live there during the summers – so we go to La Jolla to shop and eat.
Wow! How wonderful to be that close to the beach, what a dream! My jaw literally dropped when I saw that beautiful artwork! Love!
Wow! I love the place. Seems to be really comfortable. And that beach! Definitely refreshing. I love the paintings too. They are lovely.
Wow – I would happily take either the writer's cottage or the artist's garage studio with fabulous views! Thanks for sharing, MaryAnn – I love seeing your pretty slice of life on the other side of the country from me. Thanks for linking up to Mangia Mondays too by the way!
I so enjoy these little trips and insights into your life and the US, makes me feel like I've had a holiday.
Sunlight, bright ocean breezes, healthy salads in a gorgeous setting…THIS is why we are returning to the southern cal coast!
MaryAnn,
You have the nicest and most creative friends and from your corner of world it's an endless Summer…nice!

Hi – It’s good to read such interesting stuff on the Internet as I have been able to discover here. I agree with much of what is written here and I’ll be coming back to this website again. Thanks again for posting such great reading material!!
Beautiful views and photos, Ginger
THe views are spectacular. So different from Virginia, that I love to see what the rest of the US is looking at! Love that studio, and her paintings!
Thanks for a lovely post.

What a view…and love that little studio. Her artwork is beautiful!!
Carol, I wonder if perhaps you know my mother in law and her mother… Mary Ruth (grandmother in law), who lives in the "Umbrella House" right above the Wedding Bowl?
What a treat for you AND FOR US! … thanks for sharing! The cottage is adorable and her artwork is just beautiful… Are you really going to tease us without giving us a website to purchase? The view is to die for! I love hearing about your adventures and out of the way places to visit and eat ;D
Carol doesn't have a website…but she should! Are you reading this Carol?
Thanks so much Mary Ann I love the posting! Wonderful to hear how many of you are enjoying my artwork. I'm inspired by all the beauty California holds! If anyone's interested please contact me directly at crowleyccd@aol.com and I can send you photos & pricing.
Mary Ann,
Many years ago when I was in my early 20's I worked for a doctor in downtown La Jolla. The best part of the job was looking at that view from his office. The sunsets were gorgeous. Looks like your friend's view isn't too shabby either!

One of my favorite spots to visit in CA ~ what garage wouldn't look lovely adorned with that artwork?! Must try that simple refreshing salad!
I'm still stuck on that view! Amazing.
What a view and so inspirational for a wonderful artist like Carol. La Jolla is a beautiful place and whoever lives there is VERY lucky! Love the one room cottage….looks so custom! I wish I had such an inspirational place to call my "studio"! Thanks for giving us a peak into their lovely environment!
Her artwork is beautiful! It must be a dream living there…so many things to be inspired by.
Looks like your friend lives up on Mt. Soledad and, if so, how lucky are they? As a resident of San Diego I learned something i.e. Caroline's Cafe…think I'll stop by there this weekend. Thanks!
Gorgeous paintings and such a beautiful artist studio! How wonderful to reside in the seaside community of La Jolla. One of our favorite spots.. there seems to be bluffs everywhere, each with the perfect view!! I don't know how those University students get any studying in that kind of environment!
Enjoy your weekend!
what a cool house with amazing views! thx for the great blog!
Her art work is beautiful and she is so talented. How nice to live so close to the beach with those wonderful breezes.
Amazing view and beautiful paintings! Her husband's office is so neat looking too. What an inspiring place to live to bring out their creativity.
Thanks for sharing.

Oh- My heart just longs for the ocean all the time. I moved from Florida when I married MyHero and am landlocked in the midwest. We are on the Bay but it is not the "Big Water".
Your friend's place is beautiful-as are her artworks and I love that little backyard studio. xo Diana
I enjoy being in the studio, and these are just perfect. What a view!!
Thanks for sharing, Mary Ann. Can't wait to try the salad.
Happy Friday.

You feed my "California soul" so well with posts like these. Love Carol's paintings and their lifestyle. The seaside cafe is a great find, adding to my CA list. I have the ingredients for the salad so going to make that this weekend! Great inspiration this morning, thank you Mary Ann!
Oh, how lovely! California is such a beautiful place. Does your friend, Carol, have a website for her artwork? It's just beautiful!
I can almost feel that California air blowing through when I visit you! Lucky lady… a writers studio, her own artist retreat, ocean breezes….does it get any better? And that lunch spot……WOW! I would be eating there everyday!
I could be inspired to great things with those views, lucky friends!
Enjoy your weekend!

Ooooh, that is the most awesome, delightful, wonderful place–possibly on the planet–for creative juices to flow. How delicious!
Hey, Carol, is any of your artwork for sale?
