It’s no secret that I love the handcrafted style of unique Indian block prints…to wear, as throw pillows or to set your table. This week for my Five Faves with Cindy and Annie I’m showing you Indian cotton prints that I love.
1. What to listen to: “Both Sides Now”
I mentioned liking the movie, CODA before, here is the lovely song that the actress, Emilia Jones sang in the movie. It’s interesting that not only did she have to learn sign language for the movie, she took singing lessons.
You can listen to the song while reading the rest of the post. Just turn it down a bit.
2. Lovely Indian Block Prints in Pillows
Just the thing to refresh your space for summer!

“Block printing refers to the printing technique of pressing and stamping fabric with carved wooden blocks filled with color.“
3. Block Print Sarong/Bathing Suit Cover-ups
4. Indian Table Linens
In this Simple Picnic Post, I used this beloved block printed tablecloth.
5. Indian Block Print Dresses/Caftans and Tunics
The dress below I bought in a little shop in Mykonos while on vacation. Here I am holding a block print pillow at Juxtaposition in Newport Beach.
“Block printing is known to have been used in India since at least the 12th century, although this method is thought to be around 2,000 years old.”
Here are some more block printed dresses. I love how light and airy they are for the summer months. Etsy is a good place to find them…along with Roller Rabbit and sometimes J. Crew.
I bought the J. Crew dress for our trip. I love it. And speaking of cool and comfortable, this J. Jill embroidered blouse is just that!
If you are new here, each Sunday I share my top five favorite things along with my friends, Cindy and Annie. It’s like our weekly “catch-up” phone call.

Love the Indian block prints and brought a lot of tablecloths from there. They make a huge difference on the table and you can wonderful mix and match it. I also use sometimes my Sarong on a white linen tablecloth

Both Sides Now is a song I’ve always loved. I wept listening to it once again on your blog. I haven’t seen CODA but I intend to do so immediately. Thank you.

How did I miss the hair stylist info. I have your friend’s number. Howard has a medium sized TV on the patio with a fridge for beer…so sport central out there…making it quieter inside 🙂
Juliet says
Yay, Howard has arrived … along with his outdoor patio sectional! Sounds like you two, and Chief, are already living your best Florida lives! So excited to see your first room reveal on Thursday. I love block prints, I bought the Anthro dress for my nieces wedding, in two week. Yikes! And those pillows … can we ever have enough. No. Obviously. xo
Mary Ann Pickett says
You will be beautiful in that dress, Juliet!!

Mary Ann, I agree with the comment above, a screened in pool is a good idea. Fencing is outrageous and since you have to do it with a pool you might as well be comfortable. That said, I have friends that live in Ponte Vedra, just down the road from you, they have a gorgeous pool and only a fence, and they have a pond in the back yard as you mentioned that you do.
I must have missed something I don’t see the man cave, I will have to go back and look.
Love block print, especially table linens. I shared a bunch on my blog recently and there are some amazing ones on Etsy.
As for the hair dresser, I believe I emailed you one?

I love the Indian block prints, there is a fresh airy and delicate character about them that never goes out of style. Since you’re traveling to Italy soon, you should consider getting your haircut there. I’m letting my hair grow so I can have it cut in Paris in September. While we have great stylists here in US, the experience and style in Europe is definitely a notch up.

But how do you know where to go, Li? I will be in Paris this weekend 🙂

Mary Ann, it’s so much fun watching you settle into your new home in Florida! I can’t wait to see your finished room on Thursday and share your excitement as the rest of your house comes together — it’s clear how happy you are to be in Atlantic Beach! I have a couple of dear friend (also blonde!) living in the JAX area; I’ll see which salons they recommend. Have a great week!
Mary Ann Pickett says
Thanks, Nancy…that would be great!

I love block prints for everything! And can we talk about your new glasses?? They are so hip. You look beautiful, Mary Ann! I hope you and Howard enjoy for first Monday!
Gail says
I adore Indian block prints, especially pillows. The prints just make me happy. And the J. Jill top is wonderful, perfect for hot weather and covering arms! Howard’s man patio is great, I’m sure he’ll share it with you and Chief.

I am offering a suggestion based on many years living with a pool in Florida. When you build the pool, build a large screen enclosure around the pool and the deck. We did this because the cost of fencing the yard vs the cost of building a screen enclosure around the pool was quite comparable. We ended up being really pleased because we could open the house to the pool area without worrying about those pesky Florida bugs. We also ended up using the pool a lot in the evening because we were not bothered by bugs flying to the light. The company that built the screen enclosure suggested vaulting the deep end of the pool and it was a really nice look when it was done.
Mary Ann Pickett says
Ok. We will consider that. We lived in Florida twice before with pools and no screens. But there is a creek behind us. So ‘em we may have more bugs.

Hi Mary Ann,
The “man room” that you created is really so lovely, Howard should be in “hog heaven” after what you created
for him. You are gifted with such amazing talent.
I love, love, love the song Both Sides Now, that has always been one of my favorites. I believe many recording
artists have song this. My vivid memories are with Joni Mitchell and Judy Collins. I still think these ladies are so talented.
Your picnic table is something, beauty and the setting is what you create with so much love. You take the time, effort, and energy to make your life experiences so memorable.
I attended a piano concert on Friday night with some of my friends. My friend Sandie left this message for
the concert master. This quote from Hans Christian Anderson says it best:
“Where words fail, music speaks.”
Sending smiles.
Mary Ann Pickett says
Isn’t that such a great song? I love the other versions too. What a beautiful statement by Hans Christian Anderson. Lovely comment 😘

Can you tell me where the rug came from in your Man Patio? Thank you.
Mary Ann Pickett says
Target! I bought it in the store but I will look for it online and report back.

Mary Ann I have a question, which size pillow did you order for you couch? Like the blue Krinto pillow? Do you get 20 or 22 inch? These all look beautiful.
Mary Ann Pickett says
22″ for the Krinto, Kim.
kimm says
Mary Ann, Love this post. I also have been nuts for block prints the last couple years. I have that dress from J Crew on my cart too! It will be perfect for your trip. I need some of these pillows! You found some beautiful ones. I miss Juxtaposition and need a trip back down south. I love the sectional and your pillows on that too. Looks like Chief in enjoying the Florida life!! xo Kim
