The Collected Look at home consists of décor that is personal…your collections, art, flea market finds, family photos, etc. You probably have this look to some extent in your own home, right?
Instagram can be quite the diversion from the news. Pretty pictures…what’s not to like? Cindy, Annie and I have been using #TheCollectedLook on Instagram and it’s getting a nice following. Follow along with us!
The Collected Look at Home
Here are some examples of The Collected Look that I’ve found on Instagram (you might want to follow these guys). I’m also highlighting a few with small businesses since they could use the boost!
In the Kitchen
Accessories like cookbooks, vintage breadboards, and art…
In The Bedroom
I love stopping by Juxtaposition Home when I am in Newport Beach. They have a great mix of texture, new and vintage items, and color.
They also have a Juxtaposition Online Store. “Don’t Give Up The Ship” feels so appropriate right now 🙂
Bria Hammel Interiors is another with the Collected Look at home.
See how she uses art and antique pieces for a unique, fresh look?
In The Living Room
This assortment of textiles gives the collected look at home.
This is Kate Lester Home’s Online Store.
SC Geneva is another great source of The Collected Look at home. Here is their online store.
Debra Phillips Fifth and State is SG Geneva’s talented fearless leader.
I’ve been lucky to spend some time with Debra in High Point and in Los Angeles at the Design Bloggers Conference. She is really a gem.
The Collected Look can be more sparse like this, too…
I love the combination of modern and antique maps…
Speaking of antique maps, did you happen to see this post: Creating a Fresh, Classic Neutral Living Room in A Two Story Space?
Cindy with Rough Luxe Lifestyle and Annie from Most Lovely Things are showing their interpretation of The Collected Look from Instagram.
Be sure to check theirs out…I am!
Since we’ve been spending a lot of time at home, I’m getting ready to do a little “fluffing” of my collected look. How about you? Take care, friend!
Mary Ann!!
I came here to visit having no idea I had a surprise waiting for me, you are so very kind! WE NEED ALL THE HELP WE CAN GET
love & miss YOU, hope all is well Mary Ann
I KNOW, Debra! Take care 🙂
Always get very inspired by your Collected Look suggestions. The project I’m working on right now for a client, a whole house remodel, is the most challenging ever because my clients are collectors. They love vintage modern but their purchases over the years have been all over the place. They buy things because they like them, not because they provide any cohesiveness in their home. Now the challenge I’m having is convincing them to edit. Lord help me!
Haha your clients sound just like my in-laws! They collected some very nice pieces but a lot of times just because they liked the item. It actually worked out well when we had to divide up the estate. The siblings all had different tastes!
Mary Ann, This is such a good idea right now with all of us being at home now. I love the new ideas and cool people to follow!! Thank you for this. I love Juxtapostion! I haven’t been in a year or so…:( Hoping to get back one day. Love it all there. xo
Mary Ann,
The collected look is essential in my humble opinion. It gives room interest and warmth. I love some of the examples you shared. I’m now following a new IG account that designs with the collected look.

Mary Ann! Love each collected look! I adore that mustard velvet sofa!
I don’t Instagram but am in love with the bedroom with the pinstripe wall and mallard picture above the bed. I’d like to know more about the floorcovering in that room, if possible. Thanks!
I don’t know anything about it. But I like it too!
Thank you so much for this inspirational and uplifting post. Living in Washington State on Camano Island right now, I can change up my collections which will bring joy. Yesterday, I planted a mixture of radish and tri-color carrots in the feed troughs on our west facing deck. Inspired by the “greatest generation” I named it “Victory Garden.” At harvest, the vegies will be clustered into bouqets for neighbors.
Diney on Camano
What a great idea, Diney!! I’ve been redoing the art…grouping different ones together.
I SPOKE WITH DEBRA YESTERDAY!DO YOU KNOW SHE HAS A NEW CARDIGAN CORGI PUPPY NAMED BIGGLES?I have been lucky enough to go on an ENGLISH GARDEN TRIP with HER!!!!!!!!!
I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HER TOURS!FOR WOMEN ONLY!!!
I hope to do another one in the coming year!
I adore the hashtag #thecollectedlook.
I want to come up with some new hashtags for the mature women!
Maybe this afternoon I will sit and contemplate!
YOU STAY WELL WITH THAT FOUR LEGGED BEASTIE!!

I enjoyed each of these. I’m beginning to gravitate toward the more spare look, so editing well will be my challenge. I had a loooong pause over that orange velvet sofa – so gorgeous!
I am guessing the curated look is the same thing? Over time I have collected items from estate sales, garage sales, eBay, retail stores (mostly on sale) and inherited some artwork and other collectibles from my in-laws. I am in love with Debra Phillips living room!
Every time my husband and I take a drive up to Newport we have to stop at Juxtaposition Home and the Bear Flag Fish Co. :o) When we were there a few months ago one of the boutiques in the shopping center was having a pop up shop. I scored a Frame top for $25.00!!
Hope you are hanging in there…the police had to shut down parking lots at the beaches and parks here yesterday as people were ignoring the stay at home order! It worries me how many young people are not taking this virus seriously.
Linda
I loved this post and every one of your pics! You introduced me to a couple of new feeds as well. I can’t wait to check them out!
