Easy Refresh For A Colorful Country French Living Room

Look what I am participating in this year!
In fact, while I was enjoying a great family Thanksgiving in Palm Desert, California–I found my mind drifting towards Christmas decorations.  Even though I was looking up at this…
I love working with people’s preferences… not just sticking to a particular/my style.  In this case, Arleen is a big fan of Charles Faudree’s French design.  He died two years ago but is legendary.
She just wanted a refreshed look.  Buffalo checks and floral patterns are back.  So, I told Arleen that I thought we should keep the curtains and sofa and chairs…they are in great shape and she loves the patterns.

We freshened things up by painting the gold walls Benjamin Moore White Dove

and the backs of the book shelves a custom khaki/gray color that is in the kitchen, similar to
Benjamin Moore Coastal Fog..

And after…

We restyled the book cases and lengthened the curtains

The curtains should at least “kiss the floor.”

A solid throw blanket (hint: good Christmas gift for Arleen) over the sofa back would soften the look.

I used most of Arleen’s blue and white china

We also replaced the dated rug with a new, larger basketweave seagrass from Restoration Hardware in Honey.

…and this bench from Noir was purchased for in front of the fireplace…coming soon! (Send photos, Arleen 🙂

One last thing, our son Thomas started his new job in Southern California yesterday.  He found an apartment with two friends.  I’m not sure how much help he wants decorating, but I did a floor plan for his bedroom, at least.   And I picked these two up at Salvation Army for $69 (got any suggestions other than Old English?  I think that’s a real leather top).

Also bought two of these from IKEA for him…

I miss Thomas already, but it’s nice to still have him on the west coast.
