About a year and a half ago, I met Nancye at her home in Tampa, Florida. Her kitchen was in need of a major makeover.
She had a narrow porch at the back of her house (through the French doors) that she wanted to enclose to make more useable (with air conditioning in summer) and still have a view of their tropical garden. With the enclosed porch, I suggested adding a banquette to maximize space for dining.
And here it is now! (Thanks for sending photos, Nancye).
Nancye is a pharmacist… I like styling with meaningful pieces.
The one of a kind, vintage rug runner was purchased from Etsy.
The counters are calacatta quartzite.
The banquette seat is covered in easy to clean faux leather with a Perennials (indoor/outdoor) fabric back.
The Restoration Hardware chairs are also in Perennials.
There is cozy, corner seating area with PB swivel chairs to turn around and view the outside along with and a wool rug and Ballard coffee table.
I love Nancye’s addition of the throw blanket ladder…to fill in that space on the left. The shiplap dresses up a low ceiling and keeps the sunroom feel.
Paint colors: island Benjamin Moore Hale Navy, cabinets White Dove
Nancye’s living room is in progress, but we styled these new built-ins together on opposite coasts via Facetime.

What an incredible transformation! I love the countertop and brass hardware selections. And, the one-of-a-kind runner is the icing on the cake. Nancye must be absolutely thrilled with her new space!
Lisa says
Wow! That is such a great transformation! I love quartzite and hope to use it when we do our kitchen seeing as we would destroy marble with red wine and red sauce that are staples around here. All these rooms came out great and I love that you helped Nancye style bookcases via Facetime!

It was custom built for the space, Kelly.

This kitchen is going in my file folder of ideas. Where is the kitchen table from? It is perfect in the mix with everything else chosen.
Mary Ann says
Restoration Hardware. Thanks, Cheryl.

I love the materials used in this kitchen. What was used for the flooring. I am looking for a flooring to go in my kitchen, downstairs powder room, laundry room, entry and stairs. We have a very open floor plan. I would like the same flooring for a seamless look but I’m concerned about water damage in kitchen, bath and laundry room. Do you have any suggestions?
Mary Ann says
It’s wood…and you are taking your chances with it near water. But lots of people never have a problem.

Wow what an incredible transformation, she must be so thrilled and I imagine you are too! What a wonderful room to now cook in and eat in and basically live in. Next time we do a kitchen renovation I am asking you for advice!

Love the basic look, but not the open shelving. I’m afraid I just see dust and grease collection when I see open shelving. Other than that it’s lovely!
Mary Ann says
I had stainless open shelving from IKEA 18 years ago when we lived in Paris (you had to install your own cuisine)…and I loved it. Fond memories.
Lori says
Beautiful work once again Mary Ann! I have a question about the lamp/lam shade on the bar cart. Can you tell me where you found the rectangle lampshade? I recognize the base – a Target find? Thanks for your help!
Nan cYe says
The base is from Target but the rectangular lampshade from Target wasn’t quite right… this one is from Ballard!
Mary Ann says
Thanks for the info., Nancye!

The kitchen is beautiful! Do you know what color the walls in the kitchen are painted and what tile was used for the backsplash?

Nancye, made a lot of decisions on her own… but we started with a mood board that I created and then we updated it frequently. Lots of communication. It was fun…but Nancye had to live through all the construction. She loves it now.
Nancye says
Mary Ann was so wonderful to work with…just wished she lived a little closer! Can’t thank her enough…we love our new space!

You are a blast to collaborate with, Nancye. And I love how you bought the wicker console and styled it with the art!!! Someday I WILL see it in person although the facetime was great!

Nancy,
I have just added calacatta viagli quartz to my kitchen and we are having problems with baksplash that work. What is the exact color and name of your backsplash tile. It is beautiful as is your kitchen. TIA, Kathy

Oh just looks so good. White dove is such great color works in so many scenarios.
You shared the counter top and cabinet paint color but I didn’t see the information on the backsplash. Maybe i read to quickly.
I would love to know since Im gathering ideas for my kitchen update.
Thank you
alysa
Mary Ann says
I recommended a pale gray crackle finish subway tile from Home Depot and Nancye found one like it at her local tile store.
Alysa says
Oh is that pale gray it looks white and hand made. So pretty
Thanks again

Pretty & practical!
Taste of France says
That’s an incredible transformation, all the more amazing because the before and after are both white. It shows the importance of the materials. The layout is so much better–the before was cramped around the table, but there was empty dead space in that before shot toward the French doors. The after is just so much more balanced. And the upper cabinets that don’t go to the ceiling are just the worst! The taller cabinets with moldings look so nice.
