Here’s our convertible daybed review. Are you having guests for the holidays? Last weekend, we had a house full of guests…which is a good thing to have again! It meant my office needed to become a guest room.
It’s Five Faves time with Annie and Cindy where I am also sharing some Christmas decor ideas so that you can be prepared when it makes sense for you (like perhaps after Thanksgiving) and the easy breakfast casserole that was a hit.
1. Pottery Barn Convertible Daybed Review: The Pros and Cons
Pro: It’s WAY more comfortable than the futons and air mattresses that we have tried…or many convertible sofas. Plus it makes a king-size bed.
Con: This is not the easiest convertible bed to make as we had to add a 3″ memory foam mattress topper (and then where do you store it? We put it under our bed when not in use). Howard bought the mattress topper at Costco but it is also at Walmart.
So, we definitely recommend it for when you need an extra guest room in an office or den…and want a stylish day bed the rest of the time.

2. Easy Breakfast Casserole For A Crowd
Cindy H. served us this for breakfast at her house recently. It’s sort of a retro recipe that IS easy to make. She said to just google Saltine Egg Casserole…which is what I did and added a couple of modifications like chopped spinach (you could add any vegetable like leftover cooked bell peppers).

RECIPE:
30 saltine crackers
2 c. grated Cheddar cheese (I used half Cheddar and half Jack cheese since that’s what we had)
6 eggs
1/2 c. melted butter (you could probably use less)
2 c. milk
1/2 c. bacon bits (about three or four slices crumbled)
1 c. chopped fresh spinach (not a part of the original recipe but is tasty and seems healthier)
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Crumble crackers and put in a buttered 8 x 12-inch casserole dish. Mix remaining ingredients and pour over crackers. Bake for 20 minutes. Serves 6 to 8.
3. Reasonably Priced Outdoor Lantern From Wayfair
We needed a new larger-scale front porch light as the one we had was corroded from the salt air and was a bit too small.
The Darlana lantern from Circa Lighting does not have glass panes (my clients love that it’s easy to keep clean). So when the electrician was hanging this one, I said let’s just leave the glass out and see what we think (I saved the beveled panes).

I asked on Instagram if people thought it should have panes or not…and the response was overwhelmingly not. (So Howard, you got vetoed 🙂

Let’s see what Annie and Cindy’s Five Faves are this week:
Hello,
What color fabric is your daybed?
Thank you.
Just a thought about storing the topper…is it of a size that it can be rolled up, secured with elastic, and slipcovered to create a bolster?
no…too big but we bought a compression bag on Amazon that we are going to try.
MA … I’m a huge fan of your office and a convertible sofa seems like a great solution. And speaking of things I’m a fan of … breakfast casseroles. Yum. I voted for the glass out … because I detest cleaning our outdoor lantern glass. If I’m lucky Jim does it when a light bulb burns out. So if you put the glass if, find a way to make it Howard’s job! Kris sure does create beauty … I’m going to study up on her tips. Time to order our new tree and begin holiday planning. x0
Mary Ann,
The breakfast casserole looks delicious.
That’s a great idea about the panes of glass in an outdoor light. It’s often difficult to clean the glass in a porch light.

Mary Ann! That is amazing that your daybed turns into a king bed! Love your new porch lantern. It looks beautiful for fall. And you’re right…Kris knows her stuff!
xo
Mary Ann, I love that daybed and considered that before I ordered mine. I love the look of yours and that’s smart getting the topper. At least yours can accommodate two! That whole room is pretty. Love the rug also. Your door is pretty and so is the lantern! I love the no panes! It’s more modern. This casserole looks addicting! xo
I love your new light!!!
We just bought a house on the lake and I’m needing a new front door color. Yours is just what I’ve been looking for. Can you share the color/brand?
Thank you,
Jeanie
I’m not sure what color it is, Jeanie, as it was painted that when we bought the house.
Hi Mary Ann
Your home office is so fresh and fun! Great post on the pros and cons. We finally got our PB loveseat and it seems pretty good! That breakfast casserole is good. I think you could add almost anything to it and it would be good!
The absolute best sofa bed is made by American Leather. The mattress is wonderful and it’s easy to make up the bed, no extra toppers etc necessary. The sofas are beautiful , the customization makes it easy to choose the best style and fabric for your home. Why have a daybed when you can sit comfortably on a sofa and sleep well on a good mattress! I have three of the sleeper sofas and many other American Leather pieces. All are so well made!
That is great to know!!! I just wanted the feminine look of a daybed for my office though and not a sofa so much…but that is great for a family room.
