Classic Casual Holiday Outfits

Hello! This is exciting today as Cindy, Annie and I have another

Project Design: Holiday Fashion

Some stylish ladies are joining us (all the links are at the end of the post). My holiday wardrobe is pretty casual, for work, Christmas shopping, family dinners and the occasional festive party. If you are new here, I  dress how I decorate: classically with some fresher elements. I don’t mind looking my age but I don’t want to feel old lady/dowdy. Know what I mean? Here are some Classic Casual Holiday Outfits!

As you may know, I just got back from a vacation in Lisbon and Paris. Some of the photos were taken there by twisting my husband’s arm (thanks, Howard).

If you use my links for your convenience, I may recieve a small commission. Thanks! I’m not very tall and wish I was 5 or 10 lbs. lighter… so I look for clothes with a good fit and proportion. Many of these items come in petite, regular and tall.

Street Wear

Leather Jacket I’ve had mine for years and it just keeps getting better. • The Gap Black Tee I like how these are thicker (on sale). • Longchamp Tote (great for shopping and you can stuff your jacket in it if it gets warm). It’s another bag that I’ve had for years and this is my second one.. • Banana Republic Skinny JeansBirdies Loafers (like walking on air). I like them so much–I want the black velvet, too.

Outfit For At Home With Family or Sightseeing

Here I am in Lisbon, but I would wear this to play cards or Scrabble at home…with my son, Tommy (he always says yes when I can’t get anyone else to play with me 🙂

Ray Ban’s GlassesCardigan (Similar to mine purchased a few years ago). • Striped TeeLeggings (I like how these are thicker and not very expensive).

Shopping Attire

Zip Top Spotted CrossbodyRalph Lauren Quilted Coat With removable hood (Really comfortable and comes in petite, regular and tall) • Banana Republic Skinny JeansBlack soled sneakers Great price!

One thing that I have been noticing is that jeans and pants look stylish with a bit of ankle showing with sneakers or booties.

Out To Dinner

This was on the way to dinner in Paris. Ahhh…I’m still sort of in a dreamy fog about the trip.

Cashmere Cardigan With Jewel Buttons (I have a similar one). • Gucci Crossbody Purse (I love crossbody bags–they were in all the windows in Paris–lots with chain straps). • Wide Legged Jumpsuit (I like that it has pockets). • Pearl Cuff BraceletBooties

Party Outfits

One                                                                               Two

Outfit One:

Black Cashmere WrapGreen Dress  • Loafers

Outfit Two:

This is dressier but comfortable. I would probably push the sleeves up and wear lots of bracelets. Turtleneck (I have this—its warm and washable). • Velvet Midi SkirtBlock Heeled Pumps (I have these–they can dress up jeans a bit, too).

And those are my Classic Casual Holiday Outfits!

Check out what these ladies recommend…going to be GOOD!

Isn’t this a festive dress form decorated by Cindy for her son and daughter-in-law’s wine bar?

  1. Everything is so cute on you! Love your comment…I don’t mind looking my age but I don’t want to feel old lady/dowdy. My thoughts exactly. I have a college football game tomorrow so I’m wearing your cardigan, stripe tee, leggings and tennis shoe combo. The colors work perfectly. Thank you for all the lovely items you share, house and wardrobe. Have a wonderful weekend.

  2. You are a very tiny woman ! I had no idea. And, you look wonderful in every single photograph. The maxi-dress or jumpsuit is great on you, and goes anywhere. I love your classic style, not “over the top” like some of us (like me) are. California is an entirely different country compared to Texas, where we still don’t leave the house without makeup and “happening” fashion. One of my best friends now manages the Johnny Was shop in Corte Madiera, she was recently here in town, and said she was shocked to see so many beautiful girls/women all dressed up, out to dinner or lunch or just shopping. Yep, that’s Texas. So nice to see all of you doing this post together !!!

    1. That’s what I love about Texas …the ladies like to look good. No running around in workout clothes and no makeup 🙂 Thanks, Marsh, for commenting!

  3. Mary Ann—love these outfits. I’m interested in ordering the Ralph Lauren coat. I’m petite (5’ 1”) and wondering what size you purchased and if it ran true to size. I’m not familiar how Ralph Lauren sizes run so was hoping you could shed some light. It’s difficult to find coats in petites. Thank you

  4. Mary Ann, I am absolutely swooning over that wide-legged, polka dot jumpsuit! It has such instant style. And you look fabulous in it! You talk about being petite. I think most people look at a jumpsuit and think they have to be 6 feet tall to wear them. I love how you’re disproving that!

  5. Mary Ann! You look amazing and I love your jumpsuit! How fun to have a beautiful photo in one of your favorite cities!

  6. Jayne Wagner says:

Anthropologie is sold out of that adorable jumpsuit! Must be that pic of you in it that’s done it! Love all these suggestions. You look modern and chic and beautiful as always.

    1. Jayne Wagner says:

Snagged those black Nike sneakers though!

  7. Mary Ann, Love that you combined this with the Lisbon and Paris photos! What a dream trip and I’m sorry I didn’t get a chance to ask more about it yesterday. I LOVE the jumpsuit on you and I want those boots. You look great in those rust colors, so pretty. I also love the photo Contessa is talking about with the stripes and rust. SO CUTE. You should frame it. I have to check out those leggings. Always good for travel and holiday looks.. This was a great idea as you know the holidays kind of sneak up and the next thing you know you have nothing to wear!
Thanks again for driving all this way to my house. I adore you and the time went too fast. Loved it so much. I was in a happy state all day and still am. Hugs, Kim

  8. I LOVE LOVE LOVE THE POLKA DOT OUTFIT ON YOU!

  9. You look so darn adorable in that jumpsuit! Aren’t you glad you bought it? I am so dissapointed that the Birdies did not come in time for my post. After trying on Elizabeths I think I need at least a couple pairs! Love all your ideas!
