Child Friendly Blue & White Family Room Before and After

Even though Elaine lives about two hours away, we have been able to refurbish her family room via photographs, telephone calls and she has met with me here in the City twice.  Here is our progress so far…

Right off the bat…I suggested installing wood floors and centering the furniture arrangement to make it more conversational (not just all about the television).
Elaine wanted to keep the curtains and go with a dark blue (excellent choice with children–she has three) and white color scheme.  Below, you can see how the stripe fabric has some of the tan like the curtains (bottom center little square).
The dark blue fabric by Perennials can withstand the harsh California sun.  We calculated that it was more economical (and better for the environment) to recover their existing 10 year old Lee Industries sofa.  This isn’t always the case…but it was in good shape and the family loves it.
This new Pottery Barn Leather Ottoman is a good update and definitely kid friendly.
Elaine’s husband got a new Lee Industries Club Chair that swivels to look at the fireplace.  She didn’t tell him that is also glides…and he was pleasantly surprised!  We also had grass shades installed.
We still want to paint the walls and finish styling the bookshelves…but I think its coming along nicely!

My brother went into the hospital on Monday with a bad infection. We feel blessed that he is out now and doing better.  But, it means that my So. Cal family has to postpone their trip up here.

Even the bunny that my sister sent to us is looking forlorn.
Or is it my imagination?

Alexandra is bringing Chief back up to us though (he was in L.A. while we were in South America)…YAY!  And we are having cracked crab legs for dinner tonight.  Howard goes right down to the wharf to pick them up…practically out of the water!
