California Craftsman Neutral Makeover Before and After
This is Sue’s great room all set for Christmas. We have had several months of make-over projects in her home. This comment in an email from her recently made me smile
“Thanks again for all your help in making our house a home!!”
Outside those windows is a beautiful Marin County hillside view. So, I suggested this sturdy pub table with a footrest . They can sip coffee and look at the view…or I envision them playing Scrabble since the table top turns.

Her existing bar stools were updated with Windsor Smith’s Pelagos in Smoke.
Here is the room before we started. I’m not sure why those little pendant lights below were there.
Here it is after the pendants were removed and the walls were painted (Benjamin Moore Revere
Pewter). A new coffee table and television console was purchased from Restoration Hardware (using that class action settlement 33% off coupon–did you get one? Use it before it expires if you have one. And I was able to give them my extra 20% trade discount, too).
Time to retire the sofas and remove the unused armoire.
Sue’s husband travels for work quite a bit.
So when home, he wanted a big, deep sectional to hang out on
and watch television with his two sons.
The custom sectional is from Lee Industries…in a durable fabric with a fun contrasting lumbar pillow. Can you see the top stitching? I like that.
Remember the mirror that was where the television is now?
We used it in the updated powder room. The wallpaper is by Thibaut in Windward Sisal/Grey.
Same cabinet base painted in BM Kendall Charcoal.
We also installed this Rejuvenation shelf above the toilet. I used their existing art and accessories.
This was a weird little access door to the space behind the kitchen corner cabinet…which bothered me more than my clients.
but here is how we disguised it.
There are four matching panels and you can open the one on the far right.
I love that Sue, really enjoys decorating for the holidays! More about the kitchen makeover here.
A faux fur throw from Pottery Barn makes a great gift (I got the same one for my brother for his birthday)…so soft. I like the chinchilla color…nice with grey, tans or navy.
I convinced Sue to buy it for herself…and the whole family loves it. It is on sale now…maybe they should get another. 🙂
Merry Christmas
from my family to yours!
