My girlfriends and I like to celebrate each others’
birthdays by going out to lunch together.
It is not easy to coordinate the lunch date…but it’s worth it!
A restaurant feels more festive if you bring flowers for the birthday girl
and party favors.
This was another birthday celebration with flowers and favors of caramels with sea salt.
Notice how the gift is embellished with a pin?
These little notebooks were also favors at another restaurant lunch.
Recently, I decorated these clipboards as birthday presents
for two “non-local” buddies.
This one is for Netta. She is a fashionista, an art collector, a “girls’ girl” and a great mother.
Most of the jewelry came from Ebay and was glued on with metal glue from Michaels.
The small clip boards are from Staples and are covered with
flocked wrapping paper from Pottery Barn.
This one is for Elita, my sophomore year room-mate.
She has a beautiful Provençal styled home with vegetable and flower gardens…
and she is a great cook and hostess.
I am including personalized note pads from American Stationary.
Hey, I just thought of something…I would love to feature both of these girls’ gorgeous homes!
Off topic (what else is new), here is a photograph I have been meaning to share.
I took it a few months ago at ABC Carpet and Home in New York.
Great composition of all the different John Derian plates.
(I wonder how many holes are behind the plates to get this right?).
Also, thank you to raenovate for a quick rundown of our home with before and after photos.
It’s a fun, visual blog…check it out here.

Hi MaryAnn, just fell in love with these clipboards, what a great idea and inspiration. Thanks so much for linking up for the party, I'll be featuring this post on VIF tomorrow!
Those clipboards are just amazing. I shall be on the hunt for vintage jewelry and will order the note pads. Just elegant. Thank you for posting this project.
Carol

Thanks for sharing.

I love girlfriend birthday lunches! I want to come be with all of you girls…so cute…all blondies from Cali! My high school girlfriends and I were (are, well we've helped a little as we've 'matured' !!) all blondies too! I like your clip boards….so much fun. AND the stationary…love love love!
xx
Those clipboards are so beautiful. And dare I say, I want in on that circle of friends? 🙂 You make some of the most beautiful things, that NEVER look homemade. Now that's a total talent.
World's most glamorous clipboard, for sure! What a smart and chic idea.
I want you at my next birthday party!
Loved your clipboards and I love ABC Carpet and Home too!! Thanks for sharing! ~Lorraine ♥♥♥
I just noticed that Marilyn also said the same thing about etsy! 🙂 I think we have a great idea! 🙂
What a wonderful way to celebrate birthdays with friends! I always enjoy having a ladies day out with lunch too! And I love the clipboards you made! That would make a great etsy business- they came out beautiful! 🙂
We also have the girlie birthday lunch. There is nothing better. For my best friend's birthday I made birthday cake decorated cookies in her favorite colors. She has an extensive collection of jewelry, literally suitcases full and she would have loved something as lovely as a jewel clipboard. You did a beautiful job putting all the unique pieces together. I see Etsy in your future and a new business being born! 🙂
*** Looks like SOOOO MUCH FUN, and you all look like such good friends and sisters… were you aware of that? (How could you NOT be???)… Thanks for some great ideas!!!
BTW, Claire's Lido Isle home is just wonderful… absolutely wonderful… lucky gal!!! It has the feel that Jim n' I really like, and I DO remember my teen years there… (Annnnd, I was happy to see Lido Isle "still standing" after the days of my youth!!! Smiles!)…
Thanks sweet friend~~~ EVERYTHING, as ALWAYS, was BEAUTIFUL READING n' LOOKING!!!

I must say you have or should I say had some very gorgeous pins. The gold and blue one with the lady's face just wonderful. Not to mention the chippy enamel painted flower one.
Lisa

Beautiful clip boards. I have been wanting to do some of these for a long time. You have sparked some ideas for me. Thanks.
All I know is you definitely need to be selling those clipboards, Mary Ann. They are fabulous!! Loving the flowers, too ~
Tina's right! Forget interior design! Your clip boards are amazing! Birthday lunches out are always fun! I need to step up my wrapping skills!
Mary Ann, your talents truly know no bounds! Those clipboards are gorgeous and I love that you combined them with personalized stationery – such a wonderful and thoughtful gift!! I love the party favor ideas too and will be "borrowing" them!!! Looks (oops!) sounds like you all had a wonderful celebratory lunch!!!
Happy Birthday! The clip boards are fabulous! You have inspired me. I have been wanting to do this for a while, but I get too nervous that I will ruin the project. My birthday is coming up and I plan on celebrating it with some of my dearest friends and creative mentors, drinking and eating.
Thanks for stopping by and saying hi last week!
Wishing you sunshine & cheer,
Bianca
Happy Birthday! I love, love the clip boards. There is just nothing better than celebrating birthdays with special girl friends.
I love the special touches and personal details. You are so right, they DO make a restaurant birthday luncheon more meaningful!
happy Birthday!! You made such pretty clip boards for your friends. Lunch with special friend is always a wonderful thing to do. I do pretty much the same but no gifts. At our age we have more than we need, but we do go shopping and we buy ourselves something in the name of the other person, just a little fun for the girls!! Kathysue
Its all so lovely! I laughed at your comment about the Derian plates… so true! There are always extra holes behind anything I hang. Thanks for stopping by my blog and your sweet comment!
Dear Maryann,
Thank you for stopping by my new home and leaving a sweet comment the other day.
I love the decorative mini clipboards and spending special time with friends.
Cheers!
What a great way to celebrate birthdays!!I'm finally able to leave you a comment. For some reason it wouldn't work.It does now!The flowers are beautiful, and i love the plates, and clipboard.
Kathy
Your clipboards are adorable! Nice idea on meeting friends to celebrate birthdays!

Mary Ann,
What thoughtful gifts for your friends…I'm sure they smile and think of you every time they jot down a note. I love the idea of bringing flowers and favors to make lunch out even a little more special and personal. I just pinned that gorgeous photo you took at ABC…that is so beautiful…and if I attempted that at my house, there would be a million tiny little holes. I hate measuring…takes too long and i want to see the results fast!

Someone emailed me about how to make the clipboards. It is pretty simple…just layer on the jewelry pieces (even broken ones–just need the "bling") on the metal clip with the glue found in the jewelry making section of Michaels. Let it dry overnight. Let me know if you have any questions.
ok, mary ann, hold my hand through this one… what glue did you use on the wrapping paper and how does it look on the back (especially with those rounded corners) mine came out…no so great…and I'm trying it again. thanks! mar
what a fabulous way to celebrate. and thank you again for letting me share your beautiful home! let the birthday fun continue!
Our group of friends celebrate at restaurants here in Orange County, but your idea of bringing flowers and such is great. We usually do sweet little gifts for all and you've given some really wonderful ideas. BTW, since I know you are an Orange County gal, did you hear that Pascal's Traditions restaurant is closing it's doors this month? 🙁
Love your site.
Karen
Those clip boards are truly amazing! What lucky girlfriends you have to get such a work of art! I am not sure I would use them – probably just display it and pretend I use it!!
We do birthdays much the same way, but I'm bringing flowers to the next one. That was a gorgeous arrangement. I love your clipboards!
That looks like Net! I bet she will adore it! And i would love to see Net and Woods house on your blog…Fab! 😀 always such a treat to see all your creative ideas! Xoxo
I've never seen anything like these clipboards! Completely classy clipboards and that plate arrangement is genius! thanks so much for sharing! Birthdays always equal tons of great food and dessert and wine 🙂
Mary Ann,
Those clipboards are beautiful…everything you do says "class" all the way.
Looks like you had a fun birthday lunch. How nice that you can all get together!
Linda
We do celebrate with lunch! Also, those plates are oh so good! I think it takes some talent to group plates with different patterns and colors into something cohesive. Loved seeing it. M.
Looks like fun. These are such thoughtful gifts and so beautifully wrapped. You are all very lucky to have each other. A creative group of friends!
I have a small group of friends that I celebrate birthdays with lunch or an evening of drinks and appetizers, you're right, it's hard to coordinate everyone's schedules, but so fun. (Now if I could only get everyone to participate in your idea of including favors it would be even better!)
The clipboards are fabulous! How very fun that you all get together and celebrate – that's what birthdays should be. (And I doubt they'll notice :D) I took a girlfriend down to Laguna Beach for a little birthday celebration – had lunch at Sundried Tomato … if you haven't tried it, you should … their tomato soup is wonderful and so is their chopped salad. xo
Beautiful ideas for gifts…Love love the note pads!
Without doubt the most spectacular clipboards I have seen. What a wonderful gift idea!
Mary Ann you make birthdays so very special for your friends. Those clipboards are amazing!

My friends and I always go out for dinner too! Who wants to cook on a girls' night out?
Love all those cute party favors too!
You really know how to celebrate in style! The clipboards are a fabulous idea…so pretty! Most of my friends are working girls so we usually meet for cocktails. Great times!
