My client, Theresa is a busy mom of three youngsters here in Northern California. She, along with the architect/builder designed this sunny white kitchen (love the beams and skylights). The furniture placement, finishes, and accessories were my recommendations.
Beams, Skylights and Island
This is a happy sun-filled kitchen.

Cozy Banquette
This makes such good use of space. The corner banquette is covered in a linen look vinyl. The table and chairs are family hand-me-downs. The airy lantern allows the cook to see through to the backyard.

Traditional Subway Tile Backsplash
A medium grout gives the backsplash a patterned look.

Bookcases Flanking A Fireplace

A Door on Tracks Hides the Flat Screen Television
The light bamboo chairs can be easily moved for viewing.

Lee Industries Slipcovered Sofa
Theresa likes the cleanliness of being able to wash the white slipcover. Although the sofa took a long time to be built in the USA during the pandemic, it was worth it.

Light and Airy Styling
Theresa likes a lighter feel to the styling of her bookcases and coffee table. We turned the modern art horizontally for a better fit on the mantel. I told her it reminds me of a lake and forest this way.

That’s a sunny white kitchen and a great room in northern California! There are a few minor things to buy like lamps and a sofa table, but the family is enjoying it now.
beautiful and functional space.
is there a source for the dining table?
It’s a vintage family piece. Thank you!
This is such a beautiful space. I love how the inside does not compete with the outside. I need to find out what fabric you used on the banquette. I have one I am going to need to recover!! Love your before and afters! So good!
I love the lightness of this home. The natural fibres warm up all the white. I love, love banquettes!
I regret not painting my kitchen cabinets white when did a renovation ten years ago but my husband didn’t like the “starkness” of white, so we had them painted cream. I would have them painted white in a heart beat.
Hi Mary Ann,
What a pretty space, love a white kitchen and this one is so bright and airy!
I’ve been thinking about building a banquet for my kitchen eating alcove since we moved back in, this one is really nice! Los like those light fixtures, they are modern and classic at the same time!
Nice work!
XO Heidi
You should totally do a banquet…everyone loves gathering in them.
I really love the kitchen and great room. The open space feeling, the windows inviting in all the light is so up lifting. I am a fan of a white kitchen it’s fresh and happy.
I so see your vision of hanging the picture horizontally. I really like the picture it’s very peaceful and tranquil.
What is the brand and paint color? I love warm whites.
My white kitchen is 13 years old and still looks good. You can’t go wrong with white. Are these kitchen counters marble? I’m thinking of changing my granite countertops.
Your designs are always fresh.
Thank you.
Yes, they are marble, Cindy.
I see the lake and forest, too. Lovely! And also agree a white kitchen is classic.
Yes, Dawn!
Mary Ann,
Beautiful banquet, perfect for the space.
I love a banquet!
Mary Ann, It was so much fun to work with you. You have a real talent and passion for what you do. Thank you for helping us put it all together!!
You are awesome, Theresa and so talented.
Love this! Is the rug in the great room fabric/fiber or leather? I can’t quite tell. It is beautiful though.
Cowhide, Deborah.
What a beautiful kitchen, family room, and eating area. I love the light and the way space flows. How nice.
xo,
Karen
It feels like a happy space, Karen.
Nothing I love better than an all white kitchen. I have beautiful white cabinets, but black honed granite counters and after 15 years with light wheat color walls, I’m ready to paint them white. My breakfast area had natural wheat colored grass cloth wallpaper and I’m thinking of painting it white. Thoughts?
You always do such a wonderful job on every project you work on.
That could give you a nice new feel, Gail!
Beautiful! I have always loved those pendants over the island. Some day when we remodel. 🙂
They are pretty!!
Beautiful! You mention the need to get some lamps. Something I’ve been wondering for awhile is how you place lamps, especially task or reading lamps in an open plan space. Where do you run cords? Seems like so many open plan spaces I see have lighting on the perimeter of the room, which would never work for a reader like me. Luckily my home is not open plan, but it’s something I’ve always pondered. Thoughts?
With new floors, you can have outlets installed where you need them like under a sofa.
What a beautiful kitchen. So light and welcoming. I agree that white kitchens are here to stay. The blue is a wonnderful accent color to the white and nutrals. This looks like a space that you can breath in.
Yes, I think so too, Carolina.
Are you still doing virtual design consulting? Need help with area rugs for 3 rooms and bedding suggestion.
I have an antique bedroom furniture in two rooms.
And of course I have a minimum budget.
Sorry, but I have had to cut back on virtual consults since I have been seeing clients in person again. Good luck!
Love the bookshelf styling!
Thanks!
So pretty! How bright and cheery to walk into on a cloudy winter day. I have been seeing reports that white kitchens were on the way out but this one proves that they are still refreshing and current. Thanks for sharing!
Cindy Hattersley and I were just talking about that…we don’t think white kitchens will ever be passé. Thanks for commenting, Holly.
Hi!
Can you share paint colors – walls and trim?
The bar stools look uncomfortable. I love everything else about this lovely kitchen.
Wow! So light, bright, and cheerful! I love the banquette!
I love a banquette, too, Annie!
