Happy Mother’s Day…
to all you wonderful moms who brought life into the world and nurture your children. I had a good role model (thanks, Mom- I miss you).
This is a 25-year-old photo of me with my mother and kids. We were on vacation in Italy. About six months before this, I had gone through breast cancer treatment, with a lot of help from my mom. Scary time but I’m glad we caught it early!
Look how dark my hair was…it’s going back to that now except with gray at the temples and it’s not pretty. I miss my hair salon!
Apple Watch and Heart Rate
The kids and Howard gave me an Apple watch for Mother’s Day…which I know is a splurge but you can get a pretty good deal on the Apple Watch 3 series since the 5 is out now for a lot more money. I’m going to spend Mother’s Day figuring out all the features. I like that it tracks your steps and heart rate. FYI…
Especially since its a workout on the hills in San Francisco! Wherever I go…I have to come back up a hill.

McGee and Co. have pretty pillows that I like to peruse just for fun. Yes, that’s sort of nuts.
Homemade Single Serving Cranberry Margarita
Last week was our dog, Chief’s birthday on Cinco de Mayo…a good excuse for Margs! But I was the only one who wanted one. My friend, JoAnn sent me a recipe for Cranberry Margaritas. She warned, “just have one!” She was speaking from experience. So here is the recipe adapted for one using a martini shaker (or you could use a mason jar with a lid). It’s delicious.
- 1 oz. fresh-squeezed lime juice
- 3 oz. cranberry juice
- 2 oz. tequila
- 1 oz. triple sec (or orange liqueur like Cointreau)
- 1 tsp. simple syrup if desired
- Prep your glasses: To salt the rim of your glass, run a lime wedge around the rim, then dip the rim in sea salt or Tajin Spicy Margarita Salt.
- Combine your ingredients in a cocktail shaker: Combine the cranberry juice, tequila, lime juice, orange liqueur, and a few ice cubes in a cocktail shaker. Shake it up!
- Taste and add sweetener, if desired.
- Strain and serve on ice. Garnished with a slice of lime.
Cocktail Bar Set-up/Quarantine Cleaning
While looking for the tequila, I decided to set up a bar area on the bookcase in the dining room. It meant wiping down all the bottles. So then I also cleaned the shelves and reorganized the dishes in the cabinet below.
Thanks for being here. Wishing you a beautiful day!!
Mary Ann
PS. If you are one of the people that has received a virtual design consultation recently…please send your updated photos to me… thanks!!
I love your bar tray. Are you able to provide the source or something similiar?
It’s from Pottery Barn and comes with a stand for breakfast in bed.

Hi Mary Ann, Glenda from Australia here, I too love looking at cushion covers. Now we are heading into Winter here, I will change cushion covers and throws to make the living area more snug and warm looking. I will often buy cushions out is season for a great price knowing that I will use them come the next season.
I do that too, Glenda.
Mary Ann,
Happy Mother’s Day.
What a great picture of you, your mom, and your children.
xo,
Karen
Happy Mother’s Day Mary Ann! You look like a teenager in that photo from Italy…your kids so cute too!
My first husband and I got married on Cinco de Mayo. Not intentionally, it was the only date we could book our venue. The margarita sounds yummy!
I have resorted to wearing my hair in a messy bun until I can get it cut. At least I can do my own bangs.

Just love your new bar area! There are some advantages to this quarantine situation…makes us take a new look at places in our house. Happy Mother’s Day!!
Exactly… gets you creatively thinking.
HAPPY Mother’s Day M.A.!
I enjoy looking at your messages and blogs, and celebrate your ability to come up with new and fun messages every week! Loved that message with your mom in Italy, I well remember hearing about that trip, and how the lids looked at that ageI We are also in the 8th week of lockdown here in DC with full-time work at home. It is a blessing not to have to commute, but everyone is working harder than ever, amazingly.
Our garden has never looked more beautiful! More time to spend with plants! Miss friends and family though and hope to get out West when we can…..
Love, Sylvia
Happy mother’s day to you, Sylv! You are so lucky to have that beautiful conservatory at home. I will call you soon to catch up!
