Summer Porch Decor Ideas For Taking It Easy!
Here are some Summer porch decor ideas for relaxed living outside. Our backyard is small but we enjoy it to the fullest! I will show you how.
Annie and Cindy are also giving us tours of their outdoor spaces today, too. Their links are at the end of the post.
Summer Porch Decor Ideas

A Neutral Color Scheme
With color coming from the lush Florida greenery and the small aqua swimming pool just beyond, we decided to keep the base of the porch neutral.

This is just after a nice rainstorm. The movable chaises are from Wayfair.
Furniture Pieces
Normally, I like to mix things up…but with the seating area being so small, having matching furniture keeps it from looking too busy.
An outdoor sectional from West Elm (20% off right now) in driftwood provides a cozy seating arrangement for relaxation and socializing. We also purchased the two matching lounge chairs. I like that the arms are wide enough to set a drink on them.

The furniture is contract grade and the seat cushions are in indoor/outdoor material.
The curves on the coffee table help soften the other furniture edges.
Bistro Style Serena & Lily Wicker Counter Stools are on sale right now. In fact, they are having a Big Sale.

Weather Resistant Decorative Throw Pillows
The pillow sources are purchases from Etsy (in high-end Perennials fabric), Pottery Barn and Home Goods. Using pillows like these in outdoor fabrics allows the introduction of fun patterns and textures.

Television For Outdoor Viewing
Putting a television out here on the patio makes everyone happy. Its the perfect place for loud sports viewing (so I can have quiet music inside 🙂

Plants As Accessories
We added ferns in planters and pots on the outdoor kitchen counter and coffee table.

Add Your Personal Touches
The shells (above) around the woven hurricane lantern are local and from various vacations. The little marble sign was purchased in Rome.
Mosquito/Flying Insect Dyna-Trap
I don’t want to jinx this but we have been lucky about not being bitten by mosquitos. Howard bought this silent electric bug zapper and it seems to be effective.
Lighting For Evening
There are battery operated flicker candles scattered around (on timers that come on at dusk), cordless lamps on the dining table, lights on the outdoor ceiling fans (on dimmers) and string lights along the back wall that turn on with a remote control.

We recently had everything pressured cleaned for the summer months. Our kids are visiting here now. So, this area has been getting lots of action. In fact, we have guests coming over for a July 3rd party.

Serena and Lily! A gift from my sister.
Everything about your outdoor area is gorgeous! I would like to ask you about your ceiling fan. Does it
circulate much air? Looking to replace ours and I love the petite size.
Thank You!
We have two fans out there and it seems to circulate well, but you could increase the blade size if you need to.
Love your porch! We lost our patio cover in a crazy storm this spring so we’re in the process of planning something new—possibly a screened porch. I’m excitedly taking notes on everyone’s porch and patio decor. I ordered your cute Zara peachy hot pink maxi dress. It looked so comfortable! Hope you have a Happy Fourth!
I think you will like the dress! Our two balcony porches are screened in and it’s nice!
Hi Mary Ann,
What a special pic of your son, Tommy and just too adorable granddaughter. Love her bright pink sunglasses and million dollar smile. Moments treasure forever.
The backyard feels so warm, cozy, and inviting. The night time with all the thoughtful lighting must look magical. Great idea to have the TV outside so Mama can enjoy her quiet space inside. That keeps a marriage happy for you both. The sport channels get turned way up. The verbal upsets and yelling out that comes from my husband is comical, and very loud.
YES…the screaming at the bad calls, cheering, etc can get so LOUD!
Mary Ann
Your outdoor scene is beautiful.
Since I live in SWFL I am curious. Have you had to move all that lovely stuff inside yet for hurricanes. Or do you have motorized shutters.
Lived here a long time and the shutters seem to be the answer. Our layout on the lanai makes it difficult to have motorized shutters, so inside things go.
. I keep it sort of light as to not move to much.
We do move the cushions inside and just put the furniture up against the house. So far, we’ve been lucky.
Your porch is so pretty! I’m sure you and yours spend hours there!
We have a pool and a deck which isn’t covered. I’m looking at your covered area and thinking we may have to build a roof over the deck.
I love your ideas!
It does make it nice to view television out there, Nancy.
You have packed a lot into this smallish backyard. It’s a perfect spot for relaxing and entertaining.
Your granddaughter is so cute! Aren’t they a joy?!
Yes…it’s so amazing to be a gee-maw.
Dear Mary Ann,
Your neutral colors call one to sit while enjoying the lushness of gorgeous greenery. The surprise of the blue and white in your TV area adds fun whimsy. I hope you, your family and friends, enjoy refreshing times in this welcoming space.
Love from Diney on Mercer Island,
Thanks, Diney!! Happy 4th!!
It looks beautiful and serene. Love the furniture. Can you give details on material you used for your patio surface?
They are cement pavers with small shells and shell imprints…the pool company recommended them. They do get a little slippery when wet tho.
