Ranch House Living Room Before and After

January 16, 2015 By Mary Ann Pickett 1 Comment

This suburban ranch style home feels modern due to the large windows.  The owners built much of it themselves and knew it needed updating but they wanted to keep the character.  The wife, Carolyn has always had a love for horses and I thought it would be fun to bring this out.

This area is close to the front door.
Here is one of the mood boards…
The chairs and ottoman are from Ballard Designs.  The seat cushions aren’t bad but I’d like to see them upgraded down the road with down wrapping and nicer linen.  We just had a lot to buy at once!

It may not seem like a big deal, but painting the white frame on these shelves to match the walls softened the busy look.
I suggested equestrian art for above the fireplace and the owners selected this.
The birch logs lighten the fireplace.  They came from a tree in their yard (I had to buy mine at the flower mart).  The velvet cheetah pillow fabric is by Kravet.

Carolyn and I spotted the beveled round mirror at Pottery Barn at the same time.  She immediately pulled the trigger…and on a lot of things that day.  It helped that she could use my trade discount.

They never sat in their living room and so there was no rush to invest in it…I hear that a lot!  But this is the first room you see and every spot should be inviting.
Enter two Pottery Barn love seats in performance fabric (they have two dogs and teenagers).
And a new reclaimed wood Pottery Barn coffee table…

Can you see having coffee with a friend in here now?  Carolyn has a green thumb, by the way.

Liana made the custom pillows.  Notice the matching ticking micro-welts.  The patterns are by Schumacher, Lydia Vine and Camberwell.

The large dining room has a new Pottery Barn chandelier and table and chairs.

Carolyn said they have had some great parties here recently.

The ceiling light fixtures had to be upgrade.  I gave them a few lantern choices and they selected the Hadley from Ballard Designs.
We purchased jute area rugs, but I would still like to see a patterned rug at the entrance and two cube ottomans by the coffee table.
Even their little dog matches the décor!

Thanks for visiting!
And thanks for the mention, The Two Seasons.  Check it out.

What a transformation! That row of boob lights whoa. I think those Hadley pendants have a lot of bang for the buck. Every time I use them I like them even more. You really worked your magic on this home. They are so lucky to have you,
