Here is my second installment of exciting new things I spotted as one of ten bloggers selected for the Design Bloggers Tour! Take note of these three High Point Market trends.
- Dark Stained Wood is Back
- Performance Fabrics Rule
- Unique Coffee Table/Ottomans
Dark Stained Wood is Back Jeffrey Bilhuber for Henredon
I saw richly stained wood in practically every showroom. How elegant would you feel playing Scrabble at the above table? 🙂
Century Furniture Love the simple lines on this comfortable chair. It feels modern and retro at the same time.
Farm Table by Ellen Degeneres for Thomasville Furniture
I learned that some of the things we saw were prototypes of furnishings in production (so they may have been tweaked a bit since)…that sort of made it even more thrilling that many were “hot off the presses.”
Performance Fabrics Rule
Since we like a lot of white and light fabrics in California, I’ve been using performance fabrics like Crypton and Sunbrella for a while now. But I think they are going to become the norm. This luxe modern sectional by Rene Cazares is in Crypton Fabric. Bring on the pizza. Crypton is not only stain resistant, it’s odor resistant, too (have sports playing teenagers?).
Brian Paquette (who designed the Sunbrella showroom) says, “It’s only as beautiful as it is functional. Sunbrella completely flips the script for indoor spaces.” He used Sunbrella fade resistant products on the floor, lamp shades and even walls! And look who joined us in this showroom… Sherry Hart, her darling buddy Lori May and my buddy Cindy Hattersley. Anyway, after years of loving Sherry Hart’s blog, it was great to finally meet her in person. She is beautiful! (Why is there is a spotlight on my already big nose)?
Unique Coffee/Ottomans
This is a great idea by Highland House Furniture! The cubes are on casters and tuck away. Notice the dark wood again but it’s mixed with the metal shelves.
Here is an ottoman and a sliding coffee table shelf by Rene Cazares.
This Bernhardt ottoman in performance fabric also has a nice tray.
I like the casual feel of the French mattress tufting for this cute ottoman/stool by Universal Furniture.
Stayed tuned for my final post on three more cool High Point Market Trends.
And one little side note… Cindy Hattersley and I decided to be roomies on this trip. Fun!! She says she never sleeps (and her fab Pinterest boards attest to that). But I was happily chatting on and on (I was on west coast time) and managed to get her sawing logs before long. Maybe I should start a sleep aid app where I just keep droning on until you pass out?
Thanks for visiting!

This is great. I love the dark-stained woods. I’m a little tired of the blonds.
Crypton sounds intriguing. Is it a fabric or a treatment for fabric?

I always love seeing what’s new at High Point. I am glad to see dark wood popular again and those performance fabrics are wonderful when you have kids. You ladies all look adorable! Sounds like you had fun!
