Happy Sunday and welcome to my Five Faves along with Annie and Cindy! Today I’m talking about black and white in decor (our daughter and son-in-law’s living room) and for an Over 50 Outfit of the week. Black and white never goes out of style and is effortlessly chic. Along with some other fun things.
1. Black And White In Decor
It’s been a while since I’ve danced on a coffee table (the ’80s?). So our daughter Alexandra was surprised when I said “Hey that new coffee table that you like is sturdy enough to dance on!” It’s commercial grade and I like that it’s versatile in case they want to use it as a bench in an entryway or at the foot of the bed. We got it not that long ago from Pottery Barn but it’s not online anymore.
The modern art, bench seat sofa with a wooden base, diamond wool rug (well-priced), lumbar pillow, and ivory fur throw blanket is available! The throw pillows used to be mine (so was the rug). The horizontal vase was a recent wedding gift from friends. I suggested that Alexandra put the tree on a base to elevate it a bit.

2. Elegant and Fun Wedding In Greenwich, Connecticut
My friend, Lisa Burrell’s son got married last weekend. Lisa was my sister, Teresa’s college roommate. Then Lisa and I were neighbors in Winter Park, Florida when our children were little. Lisa often watched our children while I recuperated from breast cancer treatment 25 years ago. Then, they lived in England while we were in Paris. So we saw each other during that time a lot, too. Basically, we are like family to each other.
I’m so happy Lisa and Jim’s handsome son, Liam married a gorgeous, accomplished woman named Natasha. Here we are with the bride and groom and my sister, Teresa.
3. Clever Way To Discard Used Toothpicks
You stick your used toothpick in half of an orange! This is an appetizer of Bacon-Wrapped Scallops.

4. Wild Mushroom Risotto In A Baked Mini Pumpkin
Here is another great idea for Fall from the wedding that I want to try. Wild Mushroom Risotto from the Food Network served in a hollowed-out pumpkin and baked.
5. Black And White In Casual Fashion
Have you noticed how popular oversized cardigans are? And they are comfortable! Speaking of comfortable…I tried on the Madewell lug sole boots…and they feel good for walking around with a “bit of an edge!” Note: Everything from Madewell is 20% off (like the cardigan and booties) and 40% off at Banana Republic (like the tee-shirt, jeans, and socks) until Monday.
tee shirt • cardigan • sunglasses • sterling silver bracelet • hoop earrings • lip pigment • black jeans • satchel with crossbody strap • booties • no show socks

Let’s check out what Cindy and Annie have for us!
Love your daughter’s living room, MA. Classic and casual runs in the family. Your dress at the wedding is stunning. As is the brides gown. What a beautiful couple and lovely wedding. The orange half use is brilliant and so pretty. Oversized cardi and lugg soled shoes … right in my wheelhouse. Bring on fall! xo
Hi Mary Ann,
I have to chime in with the others, that dress in that color is stunning on you. What a fun history of you and your friend living in close proximity throughout the years.
Your daughter and her husband’s apartment is lovely. The black and white pulled together.
I appreciate the split orange for used appetizer picks is great. Thanks for another wonderful Sunday Faves.
xo,
Karen
Thanks, Karen. I guess it’s sort of a royal blue with black in that dress. I don’t really have much in that color but I am thinking I should!
Wow you have been a busy lady Mary Ann! Beautiful wedding photos. Have you ever seen Valentina Fussell’s YouTube channel “House of Valentina”? Almost her whole house is done in black and white!
I am going to check it out!!
Mary Ann! You look gorgeous in that dress! And I love Ali and Luca’s apartment! It’s so beautiful! And a coffee table you can dance on…now that sounds fun!
xx
Thanks, Annie!!
How special to reconnect with good friends over such a wonderful event. These are the times we cherish.
So true, Janet!!
Mary Ann,
Your hair and makeup look amazing in the wedding picture above! Maybe that dress is your color. I keep seeing a lot of bloggers talking about having their colors done. I guess after years of neutrals, we’re all excited about color again!
Thanks! I wore it for both weddings since they were a week apart back east!
