Four Quick Tips to FRESHEN YOUR LIVING ROOM

July 16, 2018 By Mary Ann Pickett 15 Comments

It’s warm in the summer but not exactly roasting here in San Francisco. The fog cools things off in the morning and evening.  But, it is nice to make minor changes for the season! Here are some quick tips to freshen your living room for the summer.

1. Consider your floors. In our case, I layered a lighter rug over the existing seagrass rug. I may be a weakling at the gym, but I have SUPER HUMAN strength when it comes to single-handedly moving furniture to position a rug. The diamond pattern is subtle but feels fresh.

2. Pull out your light accessories…like I did here with the flea market marble foo dogs on the mantel and the white CB2 vase (on sale) with white flowers.

3. Switch your darker throw pillows for few lighter ones. These reasonably priced pillows from CB2 (free shipping) are on the leather club chairs. I will mix the darker ones back in the Fall.  They are stored in the linen closet for now.coffee table styling, lighten your living roomLoving our new Blurb photo book from our Provence vacation that friends, Tori and Eric made.shelf styling, lighten your living room

4. Minimize clutter by editing your tabletop surfaces (I put extras in my “accessories cabinet”). Things feel lighter and cooler. The tray is from West Elm (on sale now).lighten your living roomShop our living room:

Here’s the view from that window above.  I love it when cruise ships are docked there.I simplified the bookshelves a bit, too. Have you done anything to freshen your living room for the summer? If you live in a hot climate like Florida or the desert, these things may work for you all year round.lighten your living room You may also like:  Fresh Classic Living Room and Dining Room Before and After and Three Exceptional Markets in Provence#livingroom #decortips #lighten lighten your living room

Beautiful home. Would you please share who makes your coffee table?

Sorry, I don’t have it. I got it at a little store fifteen years ago.

So fresh and beautiful – you have your own resort in the city! And I love the framed seashell prints in your hallway. Can you share where you found them?

I got them years ago at a little shop in Fort Lauderdale…but you may be able to find some on Etsy or Google antique prints. Good luck!

Your home in SF is every bit as fabulous as your home on Lido was, and with that spectacular view, it couldn’t be any better! I need some summer “refresh” around here so I’ve decided to lighten up my dining room buy painting the walls. It’s a dark caramel/tan now and am wondering what is a good “current” light neutral color would you recommend?

I love your coffee table! Can you share the source? Or if it is vintage what would you call the style if I’m trying to use search terms? thank you!

I got it 10 years ago at a shop that is no longer there. Sorry Kate. If I see one like it I will let you know.

Your place is so pretty and zen and airy. And you have such an incredible view! I think I already told you this, but my kitchen counters are the same marble (from Caunes-Minervois) as your demi-lune table.
I like to strip down. The throws go into a chest, still available but rarely used in summer. Fewer cushions, fewer decorations. Anyway, we are mostly outside. Then, when winter comes, it actually feels different to pull out all the stuff that makes a place cozy.
