Hello! Are you feeling the need for more color in your life? I have a pretty colorful outfit to brighten your re-entry into the world! And four other fun things along with our buddies, Annie and Cindy. We are really happy that this series is getting so much love! By the way, the comments on last week’s post with my father’s letter from France after D-Day really touched me.
Thanks for joining us this week!
Entertainment With Apple One
Apple One bundles up to six Apple services into one subscription. (This is not sponsored…I’m just a happy customer).
This is a text a while ago from our son, Thomas “I am going to get Apple One. It’s $10/ month. Plus I pay for Apple Music $10/month and storage $3/month. I’m assuming you guys do too, and probably pay for Apple TV also. So, we should consolidate and set up a family plan with more features. Only $30/month and can be shared. We can split it.”
We were already paying for Apple Music and Apple TV (we like the television streaming shows Ted Lasso and The Mosquito Coast). Howard liked the idea of the bundle so we could get Apple News (you can customize your news feed from the sources you like). I found lots of digital magazines on their site that I could get, too. Here is a little sampling.
A great feature, that I am using now is Apple Fitness. They have all sorts of video workout classes at different levels. I have been trying to do one a day (many are only 10 minutes)…from yoga to strength training to dance and walking. It syncs with an Apple watch but you don’t have to do that to watch the classes on your apple device.
So anyway, Thomas, thanks for the recommendation!
What To Watch
Howard and I been watching “The Morning Show” with Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon. Rated for Mature Audiences. It’s another show on Apple TV and involves the #MeToo movement in broadcast news. I think you can get a one-week free trial of Apple TV to see if you like it and don’t want the whole Apple One package.
“The Morning Show” explores the cutthroat world of morning news and the lives of the people who help America wake up in the morning. Told through the lens of two complicated women working to navigate the minefield of high-octane jobs while facing crises in both their personal and professional lives.”
Pretty Colorful Outfit
Have you ever bought anything from the British clothing company Boden? The embroidered dress below was my first purchase and I like the quality (also that it has pockets and is machine washable).
They are having a 10% off most everything right now. Boden clothes come in regular, long, and petite sizes. I wasn’t sure of sizing so I ordered an 8 petite but am returning it for the 6 petite…the length is good to the knees, not too short. Such easy returns too…put it back in the bag with an already printed label that comes with the purchase and drop it in a post office box.

I have the J. Crew white denim jacket (29% off now) and the Bernardo leather sandals (which I like as they have a slight wedge and go with everything for summer). Straw hat. The Bond Street Washington Square perfume is my favorite but it’s pricey so I use it on date nights or special occasions. Pink lipstick. My tortoiseshell readers from Anthropologie are also my favorite glasses.
What to Cook
Howard made this delicious Shrimp Salad with Avocado-Pistachio Green Goddess Dressing. The creator Christian Reynoso, SF Chronicle, says “This recipe is extremely California-y.” It uses avocados and is crunchy with little gem lettuce and radishes. The leftover dressing makes a tasty dip for a vegetable tray. I have screenshot the recipe below since some of you couldn’t use the link above.
Keeping the Kitchen Rug Clean!
Our small galley kitchen gets a lot of use. So I bought this machine washable rug from Ruggable.
It washes up well but you should wash it alone (I put a towel in with it and it colored the towel gray). Recently, I bought a second Suzani patterned rug so that I always have a clean one ready when needed.
The pattern is printed on (not woven) so I would use Ruggable rugs in less formal spaces where you want to be able to wash the rug.

I love color in my home so I love rug #2! Our neighbors had a big party on Friday. (the husband plays in a 7 piece band) It was so nice to get out and mingle without a mask!! I have an animal print clutch from Boden that I bought years ago and I think I purchased a top for my granddaughter. They seem to have good quality.

I love the somewhat southwestern patterned black and white rug. And it looks easy to care for. Perfect for the desert here in Palm Springs!
Mary Ann Pickett says
Yes…it would be cute there.
Betsy Muncy says
I enjoy following you from Dallas,TX. I
The shrimp salad looks delicious and would be quite tasty in our Texas heat. However, I can’t seem to get the recipe from your post. The newspaper site freezes up to purchase a subscription. Could you post the recipe in a different format, or with a Pinterest link?
Thanks!

Just letting you know that Boden Kids clothes are great, soooo cute and long wearing. My go to store for grandchildren’s gifts!!
Mary Ann Pickett says
Thanks, Betty. Good to know!
Kelly says
I like the dress, but I don’t see that it gives a length anywhere. Could I ask how tall you are and where the petite length fell on you? Thanks
Mary Ann Pickett says
I am 5’1′ and it came to my knees.
Mary Ann Pickett says
That’s the petite.
keven says
Love the dress ! Thank you !
Cathy says
I’ve been buying clothes from Boden for about 12 years. I probably buy more from Boden than from any other retailer. The quality is good (commensurate with the price), with only a very few exceptions. I occasionally have an issue with fit as they do not cut their clothes for a full bust/large cup size, and to go to a larger size means the item will be too big across the shoulders. I like that besides Petite and Regular, many dresses, skirts, and pants come in a Long length as well. If an item doesn’t fit or is just not “you,” returns are super easy and no cost to the buyer (except final sales items).
Mary Ann Pickett says
Good to know, Cathy. Love the easy return. I think I will be ordering more in the future.
Stacey says
That salad sounds perfect. I am not a fan of fish sauce and use a bit of anchovy paste instead.
Mary Ann Pickett says
Good substitute, Stacey!
Sheryl says
I can’t get over how the second rug goes with your dress!
Mary Ann Pickett says
How astute of you to catch that, Sheryl!!!
cindy says
Great post! I really like Mosquito Coast and the Morning Show both great suggestions! I want to make that salad tonight!! I just ordered a rug from your link! Happy Sunday!!
Mary Ann Pickett says
Cindy, I hope you got it with the thicker pad…it’s more comfortable.
Karen Glaser says
Can you print the recipe? I’m not able to see it with the he ads. Thanks!
Mary Ann Pickett says
OK…I will screen shoot it.
Carol says
My favorite rug is the Suzani print-I love the colors & how it accents your lovely copper pieces. The shrimp salad sounds delicious but I could never read the recipe cause the San Francisco Chronicle newspaper subscription ad would never go away even after trying several times🤣
Mary Ann Pickett says
Oh thanks for telling me!
