No kidding.
I was in the check out line early last night in here in Mammoth
(the closest main skiing area to Los Angeles),
buying the ingredients to make Stone Gable’s Asparagus Leek Soup.
These two tall, big shouldered men were in front of me…
one was a bit taller than the other, low baseball cap,
chiseled chin, face even better than the movies, pulse stops,
drop the leeks,
light headed–altitude?
I’m cool. Pay for groceries.
Walk out and see Ben loading his black SUV with whom I think must be his brother.
Oh Jennifer, you lucky woman. Just googled “People” magazine
that they had their third baby last month…
that they had their third baby last month…
must be a quick boy’s weekend (I saw the beer). Hey, come on, the snow is great.
Our son, Tommy, saw Adam Sandler with his kids at the burger joint here in January…
don’t think he would have the same effect on me, but Tommy was thrilled.
Check out Debbie’s beautiful home tour below!!!
PS. Howard, you are cuter than Ben.
Yay for you!! How fun! Adam Sandler– cool enough, but you're right, not quite the same affect. 🙂

As I was reading I felt a little more jealous after every word! You are a lucky one! 🙂

In late 2010, Ben Affleck and his family, along with Rachel McAdams were in my hometown of Bartlesville, OK filming a movie that should be released this year. Before they left town, they wanted to have a charity event to raise money for a local organization. My parents still live there and were invited to attend. Anyone attending could pay 1,000 dollars to play poker with Ben. All proceeds supported the charity. At the end of the event, Ben and Rachel thanked everyone for making them feel welcome and "normal" and that we were the most down to earth, friendliest people. No autographs or pictures were taken, just a good time. True story!
Almost as good as my sitting across from Josh Holloway (Sawyer from "Lost") for a not long enough dinner in our local restaurant. Sigh.
PS. Any pics of "Howard"??
Best,
S.P.
This makes me think I need to go grocery shopping more often.
Oh you lucky girl you! Ahhh Mammoth…the good ole days. Been eons since I'be been there…spring skiing…the BEST!
xo
Lucky girl. Glad you clarified that Howard is cuter than Ben! 😉
Oh so jealous. You know how I love eye candy and you got to see it in person!!
Hahaha! This is so cute!! i would have dropped the leeks too!! Ben's always been my favorite! Soo handsome!!
HA! Can just imagine you dropping the leeks!! Always fun to see the stars in real life!
Mary Ann,
This post is so fun and I can just hear you saying it…"I'm cool, pay for groceries." He is darling! Enjoy the snow!!

WHOA…..
I especially luv your "Howard, you are cuter than Ben"…..:)
I saw Ben onboard the ship where they made part of the movie, Pearl Harbor.
We were on vacation, touring the ship, and they had the top deck roped off for filming. He and several of the other actors came thru the deck we were on. We all nearly flat died of heart attacks. As he walked by, he asked our young grandson, Drew, if he would like to go up on top deck to watch a little filming. Drew was so thrilled he could barely walk. AWESOME moments!!
No way! How fun! Did you say anything? You should have snagged a photo! 🙂 I love the way to described the encounter! 🙂
Oh I would have reacted the SAME way!!! How neat!!
Mary Ann,
I might have embarrassed myself. Ben Affleck has been one of my favorites since Good Will Hunting. I so admire that he seems to be a solid guy and a good father and husband. Of course this could be part of my star-crazed fantasy, but I always hope the actors I admire are truly good people! LOL.
So neat! Did Ben pick up the leeks for you?
*** I'm FIIIINALLY receiving SOME e-mails (still "off n' on, tho!), MaryAnn… GLAD I got THIS ONE for sure!!!
I'm sooo w/ you on Ben & Jen (never DID like J LO, too… still don't!)… I'm kinda "glad" I rcvd this so late cuz I'm writing my comment at the end here, and I just MUST say it's better to DROP YOUR LEEKS, than LEAK (which I probably would have done~~~ he's suuuuch a cutie… I LIKE cute n' handsome, happily, sweet, MONOGOMOUS married men like mine!!!)…
Hugs,
Linda (in AZ*, of course!)

(P.S. Hey! NOW THAT you know one of his SKI OUTFITS, CAN'T YOU just "HAPPEN" to get in the lift line w/ him at the same time, maybe????????!!!!!!!!!!! )… (Better yet, FALL DOWN in front OF HIM… WORTH A BRUISE OR TWO, DON'TJA THINK?!?!?!)… Several years ago, when we had our Park City place, TIGER WOODS was on the BUNNY SLOPE w/ Elin at Deer Valley while we were going up the lift (she was wearing alll black, and w/ that long blong hair I thought my Jim would have to jump OFF the lift to PICK UP his JAW… yep, he said she was "THAT H*O*T!!! )… XO, Me
Linda in AZ! You crack me up Girl and I second all your sentiments!
xo Renae in GA!
I am SO old! I had to work REALLY hard AND read all the comments to know that was Ben Affleck! Yes, I do recognize Sandler, who seems like a sweetie. It took real guts to admit this, I hope you know! I'll bet the soup was equally delicious!
Of course I love a New England boy!! My heart would have been a flutter!!!
How fun – love the star struck leek dropping!!!
It would make me smile, and probably wish I wore lipstick.
Cute post Mary Ann! Love the ending 😀
Be still my beating heart. My biggest claim to fame is Frankie Munez on the subway in Paris. He took one look at me and rolled his eyes, like stupid American don't start gushing over me, HA! No worries, can I just say he is so short in person;)
Mary Ann you lucky, lucky woman! And all I can say is nice save at the end there….;)

Debra~
What Bens not even cute……are you kidding? ( I bet Howard totally loves me now) 🙂
Now seriously speeking I am a sucker for that dimpled chin every time….and that square jaw, oh yea, he is cute and worth dropping leeks for maybe even stealing a second glance (sorry Howard) and I am happy to see he and Jennifer happy and enjoying their growing family. J Lo is talented but I never ever "got" the two of them together but do like and approve (like I am sure they wouldn't have married without my blessing) of he and J. Garner.
Fun story..hope you had fun at Mammoth, sounds like its a happening kind of place!~
Too funny, Mary Ann…I love your telling of the encounter…I've seen Jen a lot more than Ben, but I think they are both really down to earth people amongst the Hollywood crowd. Hope you had a great weekend in Mammoth…
What a cutie! Love your description…my question is, can he ski? Probably snow-boards as he is young! You could have invited him over for Leek Soup…he could have brought the beer!
Has your heart rate slowed yet? lol What fun! xo Diana
How exciting! I so enjoyed how you wrote this post — very cute! I like Ben Affleck and also his brother, Casey. I would have dropped the leeks too if I had seen Ben in line at the grocery! The only celebrity sighting (in everyday life) I can recall is when my husband and I were at our favorite local bakery and in line ahead of us was Dan Marino, the former pro football player. That was kind of cool.
Claudia
Ben is darling! 🙂
Oh he is just so cute! Sounds like you are having a good time there! Enjoy your weekend!
-Shelley
Oh my! I would have had a hard time trying to function normally. Good for you, not pulling out the camera phone!
I would have been pretty helpless myself. He is SO gorgeous. And yes, Jennifer is one lucky lady.
Have a nice weekend.
Teresa

Very fun! He is one handsome man!
What a fun experience! And congrats on the self control and not snapping a pic or two!
Have a great weekend, Mary Ann!
OK Mary Ann, I need to know…did it look like he was wearing a toupe? I have always wondered about that! And good for you for keeping your cool…good girl!
My market is the place I have seen the most celebs all my life. Just Monday I saw Ted Shackleford and Neil Flynn(The Middle, and Janitor on Scrubs). I can't even count all the celebs I have seen at Gelsons in my 50+ years. The market is the best place for celeb sightings!
He grew up directly across the street from me. I've never had a sighting but Casey spends a few weeks here during the summer. It is a little surreal when you see someone like that though.
Now that's a major "STAR" sighting! Hope the leeks didn't get bruised!!
Wow! I would have dropped the leeks too!
dreamy!
What!!! YOu dropped the leeks! That was not part of the recipe!!!! Lucky you!
Yvonne
Cool! 🙂
