There’s sort of a “California Cool” style that involves vintage, somewhat distressed “Oriental” rugs. Since these vintage Turkish rugs are typically over 50 years old and washed several times, they often are not as soft as newer, plush rugs. But the aged patina makes them desirable.Greige Design

When Carly from Unique Rug Store offered to send me a vintage Turkish rug, I said “sure!” I knew Cindy Hattersley was happy with her rug from them. With winter coming on, I wanted a rug for our dining room that would warm up the room and I wouldn’t have to worry too much about food spills.
The Unique Rug Store‘s rugs are one of a kind (so not exactly standard sizes), hand-tied, vegetable dyed and reasonably priced. Especially for such large rugs that are 50 to 60 years old. I’ve seen these types of rugs online for a lot more money.
After I selected the rug, it arrived in three days all the way from Turkey. And it was clean. Since it’s a little thin, I bought a thick rug pad and trimmed it to fit. Even though they gave the rug to me, I would have bought it myself (like we did for the one in my bedroom).
Here are some other vintage Turkish rugs that caught my eye…

Everything in Turkey is cheap right now! The lira is down 35% this year. But get them quickly, the sanctions may be lifted soon. I feel bad if poor citizens of turkey have to liquidate their belongings to buy food.
They do look beautiful, but how do you buy a rug on the Internet? I have enough trouble picking one up in person.

I love this post! The colors are so much softer when washed and they look more modern too!

Oh Mary Ann, the rug you chose is wonderful and looks beautiful under your dining table. I think I must check out these antique rugs, I’d love a new rug in our den.
